She's "I want a piece of chocolate" / "take me to a movie" / she's "I can't find a thing to wear" / and now and then, she's moody

Quote of the week

“Soon after this, Saffron and Sarah became best friends, and they have been ever since. They bother about each other. For instance, if a combination of discos and wheelchairs and Valentine’s Day made Sarah unhappy, then it would make Saffron unhappy to.”

Five Minutes With... Little Ragdolly Designs

By SaffiyaScarlett · August 18, 2009 · 2 Comments · 302 Views

As I mentioned earlier on today, I have recently had the chance to speak to the lovely Alice from Little Ragdolly Designs - here's what I found out!

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m abit quirky and I secretly wish my name was Cissie.  You can identify me by my sparkly blue dr martens and home made clothes.  I love music –  I sing, play the clarinet, guitar and dabble at the piano. And my favourite hobby is knitting while sipping a cup of coffee.

2) How did you get into sewing and designing?

As a little girl I’d sew clothes for my cabbage patch dolls and barbies, I’d draw the patterns on paper then raid my mum’s sewing box for fabric.  Then my wonderful Grandma taught me how to knit and I taught myself to crochet.  Since then I seem to have had a flare for it!

3) Is this something that you want to take further, as a career etc?

I used to want to be a designer, but it’s so competitive!  I now have my heart set on being a musician.  However I’ll never stop knitting and sewing because it allows me to create clothing and accessories I can’t find in the shops.

4) When and why did you decide to start selling your work?

Having been thinking about selling my creations for years, I finally got a shop up and running only a few weeks ago because I was unsure how to go about selling.  I decided to start selling as I’ve begun writing songs and need a bit of money to fund my musical activities. I’m hoping to buy time in a proper recording studio instead of using the hall way in my house!  You can search me on myspace if you want to hear my tunes.

5) Where and how can people buy it?

www.ragdollyydesigns.blogspot.com!!  As it’s a blog I’m only posting a few items at a time so that they are all displayed on the main page.  I use my Dad’s paypal account, so all you need to do is click the ‘buy now’ button (you’ll also need to hijack your parents account like I do!).

6) What are your inspirations?

Tim Walker fantasy photos and the dreamy feeling I get when I look at them.  Cute things like dolls and my favourite big ‘Alice in wonderland’ book.  And also different fashion trends like vintage and punk/grunge.  I’m inspired by everything I see, hear or read really!

7) Who is your style icon?

It’s funny you ask, because I don’t really have a style icon.  I like to be unique in the way I dress and I like to think that my style would inspire others.  I do like the way Alexa Chung dresses though and the grungy look Alice Dellal pulls off!

8) Describe yourself in five words!

Unique, eccentric, fun loving doll :)

So, thank you, Alice - and I wish you all the luck in the world!
